The Florida Project

I love the story and cinematography of this film with such an unforgettable set location with the purple hotel. I think the characters are very well developed and are portrayed incredibly.

Warm, winning, and gloriously alive, Sean Baker’s The Florida Project is a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood. Set on a stretch of highway just outside the imagined utopia of Disney World, The Florida Project follows six-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince in a stunning breakout turn) and her rebellious mother Halley (Bria Vinai, another major discovery) over the course of a single summer. The two live week to week at “The Magic Castle,” a budget hotel managed by Bobby (a career-best Willem Dafoe), whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life, her endless afternoons overflowing with mischief and grand adventure as she and her ragtag playmates—including Jancey, a new arrival to the area who quickly becomes Moon’s best friend—fearlessly explore the utterly unique world into which they've been thrown. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her delicate fantasy is supported by the toil and sacrifice of Halley, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter.

TIM BURTON

He is an eccentric filmmaker who broke through as an animator and storyboard artist in the 1970s to progressively becoming one of cinema’s most recognised directors.

He directed some of my favourite movies such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice In Wonderland and Sweeney Todd. I've grown to love his odd, imaginative and impressionistic style in which is now known as "Burtonesque".

GRETA GERWIG

She is the 5th woman to be nominated for a best director in the Academy Awards. Gerwig's critically acclaimed coming-of-age comedy called, "Lady Bird," earned her another nomination for best original screenplay.

I am truly more inspired as she is the first woman Oscar-nominated for her directorial debut. The film had a great sense of light humour and with relatable characters.

LUCA GUADANINO

Luca Guadagnino is an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He directed one of my favourite movies, "Call Me By Your Name," known for its sensuality and elegance.

One of Guadagnino’s trademarks as a director is the use of space and settings in his films, most notably bucolic countrysides and rustic villas in his native Italy. I love that he takes the landscape of the scene and makes it as an important role as a protagonist or character in the movie.

ANG LEE

Ang Lee is a Taiwanese Academy Award-winning director, producer and screenwriter whose films include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain and Life Of Pi.

One of my favourite novels is Life Of Pi and his movie adaptation is detailed and exceptional. His passion for filmmaking really showed in this movie. I hope to channel this kind of passion into a future project I will be working on.

STEVEN SPIELBERG

He is one of the most influential personalities in the history of cinema and Hollywood's best known director. He is an Academy Award-winning director, screenwriter and producer with films including Jaws, E.T.,The Color Purple and Schindler's List.

I see him as a genius storyteller. He is very good in manipulating the audiences' emotions. Spielberg takes stories, creates and transforms something compelling and magical for the audience to be fully engaged with the movie.
