Surrey Christmas Bureau

I had a very meaningful experience at this organization. I assisted in helping low income families get gifts for their children this Christmas. I made sure that the toys are organized and presentable. I could see happy faces from parents and grandparents after they had chosen toys for their little ones. I am glad to have helped make Christmas better for others in this way.

My experience at this place was exciting and wonderful. I was able to share joy and spread holiday cheer by helping out children and their parents prepare various arts and crafts for Christmas. I could see that the children especially the young ones are excited and eager to colour, stamp and make reindeer hats. They added a cute accessory in their pictures with Santa!

Bear Creek Halloween Train

I had a lot of fun doing various jobs such as helping out with the arts & crafts, coordinating halloween games and refilling the pumpkin patch. Many families came to catch a ride on the train and go through spooky tunnels with scary halloween characters. I loved seeing the children's excited faces when they hear the train coming.

I had the opportunity to share my knowledge and tips to students in Johnston Heights Secondary, assisting with their homework, projects and help improve their time-management and organization skills. I encouraged and motivated students in the study environment, whilst also counselling students' well-being.

My friends and I had the chance to be a part of the Surrey Youth Stewardship Squad art event. Rebecca Graham, an environmental artist came to lead a nature walk pointing out native plants that were important weaving and dye materials for First Nations of the Pacific Northwest. We made 'Foraged Fibre' bracelets out of invasive plants.  Amelia Butcher, a ceramic artist, also taught us how to sculpt fungi and mushrooms out of clay.

The Land Of Stories
Event in Vancouver
P a r t i c i p a n t

I got a chance to meet my favourite author in the world : Chris Colfer! In the event, he read a part of the last book of the series and there was also a contest competition which I participated in. I dressed up as the golden harp character in the book: The Land of Stories. Out of all the wonderful costumes, he chose me as the best and the winner of a Land of Stories Package! As a crazy fangirl, this is one of the best days of my life and I will cherish this moment forever.

For my passion project, I explored the topic of multilingualism by learning Korean while trying to balance that with the other languages that I speak: English, Tagalog and French. I researched different educational platforms on learning Korean as well as interviewed Korean speakers as well. By the end, I was able to write and read "Hangul" and also form basic Korean sentences. I've documented and reflected on my learning journey in my Passion Project Journal and the website I created.

I have been a part of my high school's theatre company for two years. I have worked on the set of "Game Of Tiaras", "Closed For The Holidays" and "Peter And The Star Catcher".  The role of set crew members and to design and contribute to the overall aesthetic of the theatre production stage. We create, paint and place props for the show. We organize all the materials used for theatre company. Before each show night, we also sell tickets and usher people into their seats.

I also had the opportunity to design the program for the Peter And The Star Catcher production. I was also part of the team that took the actors' and crews' photos.

I have been a part of this club's creation and development. This is a recent addition to my high school. Our responsibility is to inform students about upcoming events and important announcements. Currently, I am managing the Instagram page of JH Media Crew. I've created posters to promote us as well as designed the logo and thumbnail for the podcast segment called "JH Off The Clock".
